One of the most popular topics recently is journaling… why and how?
Journaling had been a consistent thing in my life since I was a child.
I was never a person to talk about my feelings I keep things to myself, mostly things that hurt, but when things became too much, I had to find a way to get some of that pressure out, so the first thing that came to me was writing.
I picked up a paper and started writing…
Now that I’m older, I made it a habit.
Journaling really saved me and here is how I journal now.
Last year, march 2019, I bought a little journal, some people journal everyday but I find it unrealistic, I tried it for a while but I found myself holding the pen and starring at a blank paper…
Instead, now, I have my journal on my nightstand and I only pick it up when thoughts and ideas are spinning in my head and I need to let some of them out on paper.
I can journal for a week straight and then not pick it up for two or three weeks… it really depends.
What do I write on my journal?
It could be anything and everything; I write my dreams in there, the dreams I had the night before, what I’m feeling, something I want to accomplish, something I heard and upset me, things I’m grateful for, I write everything that goes through my mind…
How do I journal?
There is no right or wrong way to journal actually, you can get inspiration from other people, but journaling is about feeling better… so do what makes you feel better; some people like to draw, to use colors or even paint… as for me, I like to keep it simple so all I use is a black pen, I write the date at the top and after I finish all I want to write I add the ‘exact hour’ at the end because sometimes I journal more than once a day.
When do I journal?
So many people prefer to write first thing in the morning, some prefer to journal right before bed and it’s their choice, but like I said it’s all up to you, journaling for me is not an activity that I have a set time for, I don’t journal at the same time every day; if I wake up and I had a beautiful dream, I pick up the journal and write about it while all the details are still vivid in my mind. If I had an emotionally exhausting day, I write at night about what happened so I can go to bed feeling light and a bit better, if I talked to someone or watch a YouTube video about something that really affected me than I will right about it then… So I really don’t have a specific time for it, it’s about emptying my mind when I feel the need to do it and/or document important events of my life.
So what I’m trying to explain in here is that journaling is all about “feeling better”; it’s about writing (or drawing) whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want.
It’s about feeling better!
Till next time…
Heather.
